Bushfire mapping in WA – changes, updates and future

Western Australia is greater than 2.646 million km2 and 93% of that land area is considered prone to bushfire. The updated Map of Bush Fire Prone Areas refines bushfire prone vegetation mapping and introduces areas of lesser landscape bushfire risk.

Exploring beyond the upcoming release of the Map of Bush Fire Prone Areas, opportunities to change processes and improvements to the Map of Bush Fire Prone Areas.

Richard is a passionate town planner, having spent 10 years in town planning roles within private, local and state government. After starting as a Senior Land Use Planning Officer at DFES in 2018, he has moved onto managing the Map of Bush Fire Prone Areas. Although he has expanded his knowledge into geospatial information systems and project management, he remains passionate about town planning and continues to actively follow changes to keep in touch with the WA planning system. Richard has been updating the Map of Bush Fire Prone Areas and is the current Acting Director Land Use Planning at DFES.
