The Country Fire Authority (CFA) is a volunteer fire service responsible for fire suppression, rescues, and response to other accidents and hazards across most of the state of Victoria, known as the Country Area of Victoria. CFA comprises over 1,200 brigades organised in 21 districts, who are managed by 5 regions.
The CFA regions are:
· Loddon Mallee Region (North West)—districts 2, 14, 18 & 20
· Grampians Region (West)—districts 15, 16 & 17
· Barwon South-West Region (South West)—districts 4, 5, 6 & 7
· Hume Region (North East)—districts 12, 13, 22, 23 & 24
· Gippsland Region (South East)—districts 8, 9, 10, 11 & 27.
CFA has a leading role in prevention, preparedness, response and recovery of fires and other incidents.
CFA runs prevention programs in the bushfire, residential fire and business/industry fire environment, examples include
· Fire Safe Kids is an education program.
· Community Fire Guard a bushfire-based program.
· Receiving referrals under the Victoria Planning Provisions for development within the Bushfire Management Overlay and renewable energy (solar and wind) and battery energy storage systems (BESS)
· The provision of guidance and advice to business and industry associated with dangerous goods, caravan parks, etc.
CFA runs a successful fire equipment maintenance business, servicing fire extinguishers, fire hose reels and fire blankets throughout the State of Victoria.
